What makes Yami Yami
Pâte de Fruit different?
Fresh Organic and local whole fruit.
Most brands use frozen fruit purees that come from France, we take pride in using only organic fruit from local farmers in California —the majority of them being located in less than a 100 mile radius from Oakland, celebrating the true slow food spirit!
True vegan-friendly.
Some brands add animal gelatine and most use white sugar —which is refined with bone char—, we only use apple pectin and organic cane sugar.
We keep it simple.
Our pâte de fruits don’t have any preservatives, colorants or flavorings (natural or artificial), their vibrants colors and intense flavors come solely from organic fruit from sunny California!
Less sugar.
Traditional recipes contain more sugar than ours, we respect the French tradition by using the same method but —with a lot of testing— we’ve reduced the amount of sugar to just enough for these fruit jellies to set, letting the fruit shine.
Our pâte de fruits could also be call “candy of nature” because they are packed with fruit, containing up to 70% in each sweetie!
Packed with fruit.
Local ingredients.
We firmly believe buying local not only supports local producers (aiding in the local economy), it is also more earth friendly by emitting less carbon emissions through transportation —that’s why we only use organic fruit from California farms and spirits from local distilleries in the Bay Area. For other ingredients that are harvested abroad, like tea, we make sure they are Fairtrade and Organic.
Compostable packaging.
Our rice paper pouches may look humble, but you know what’s the most important? Leaving no trace, that’s why I switched to compostable bags as soon as they were available. It’s common to see pâte de fruit looking beautiful in transparent plastic boxes, but is the impact in our environment worth it?
If you are looking for something more fancy, we do offer our ‘Tarrito’ which is a cute jar with 2 mixed flavors of our seasonal pâte de fruit. It can be reused for many purposes and unlike plastic, it can be continually recycled!
We extend the same values to our shipping material —box, tissue paper and sticker are compostable. You can even use the box for mulching on your own garden!
